The Appearance of Svanhild Hvidsten

I have created a lot of characters in my world of Imperial Norway 2053, but ironically my very first Imperial Norway character, Svanhild Hvidsten is someone I struggled for a very long time to pin down. So you will find find many images of Svanhild that looks different.

This time I think I am settling finally on a look, which is what you find here. Part of the challenge is deciding on not just a face and hairstyle but also clothing.

Let us look at some different aspects.

Hairstyle, Eyes and Build

While Svanhild's look has varied, she has always had short hair and blue eyes. The short hair was picked as a way to give a more militaristic fascist vibe.

Commander Modgunn Wold and Svanhild Hvidsten actually started out looking very similar. They were in a way the same character for a while. Some of my challenges with Svanhild has been trying to move her significantly aways from the look at Modgunn. However I like the Modgunn look in terms of expressing power and dominance, so I decided to keep som of that similarities with some twists.

1. Svanhild has slicked back hair as opposed to combed over undercut hair like Modgunn.
2. Since Modgunn is supposed to be more of a soldier type she has a bulky body builder or power lifter type body. Svanhild is a politician. Not a warrior and is thus distinguished by a slimmer build.

Red Coat Clothing of Svanhild

The colors of Imperial Norway are black, red and white as is the classic fascist colors found in the Hakenkreuz. For better of worse these have become the aesthetic that we associate with totalitarianism.

Many of my fascist characters are often dressed in outfits or armor that is predominantly black. I decided that a way to make Svanhild really stick out from the rest is that her coat is red and has a high collar. The high collar look is inspired by Blade Runner

Background Setting

In these images I have used a background meant to invoke an Imperial Airship of interior of an Imperial Tower. I have played a lot around with different settings. I have tried having Svanhild speak in front of numerous soldiers at a podium. To somehow represent a Nazi style rally. But I have not been successful in creating that.

I still take suggestions here for a setting that I can depict her in. I am leaning toward having her be in some kind of war room discussing strategy with here close allies.

Black Shirt and White Tie

To cover all the colors I figure that if her coat is red, then her shirt should be black with a white or silver tie. An alternative is black leather with a thick zipper.

Circular Segmented Window

I like using circular segmented windows to indicate a science fiction setting as that is an unusual choice for normal contemporary buildings but something one might find in various aircraft.

Just more variations on Svanhild's look and outfit.
